How to Get More Customers Without Spending More on Ads

If you've ever wondered how to get more customers without spending more on ads, I'd start by looking at the people already searching for what you sell.

Because they’re out there.

Someone needs a plumber today.

Someone's AC isn't working.

Someone needs a roofer, electrician, landscaper, cleaner, or contractor.

They aren't waiting for an ad to convince them they have a problem.

They already have one.

They're pulling out their phone and searching Google for someone who can fix it.

The question is whether they find you.

I've seen business owners pour money into ads while their Google Business Profile hasn't been touched in months.

They'll pay to put themselves in front of people who weren't looking for them while practically ignoring the people who are.

That has always seemed backwards to me.

If you're trying to figure out how to get more customers without spending more on ads, start with the demand that already exists.

Search for your own services.

Not your business name.

Search the way a customer would.

"Plumber near me."

"Roof repair."

"Electrician in St. Louis."

Whatever you actually want customers calling you for.

Now look at what comes up.

Do you see your business?

If you do, would you choose it?

How do your reviews compare?

Are your photos recent?

Does your business look active?

Can someone immediately tell what you do?

Click through to your website.

Is it obvious how to call you or request an estimate?

That's where a lot of businesses are leaving money on the table.

They don't necessarily need another advertising campaign.

They need to do a better job capturing the people who are already looking.

Of course, there's a catch.

Doing that consistently takes time.

Reviews need to keep coming in.

Photos need updating.

Your Google Business Profile needs attention.

Your website needs to support what you're trying to rank for.

And none of it works particularly well when you spend one Saturday fixing everything and then forget about it for six months.

That's where having someone responsible for it becomes valuable.

Not because you couldn't learn to do it yourself.

You probably could.

But you already have a business to run.

So when someone asks me how to get more customers without spending more on ads, my first answer isn't always "spend more on marketing."

Sometimes it's simply this:

Get more out of the marketing opportunity that's already sitting in front of you.

And do it without turning marketing into another job for yourself.

If people are already searching for what your business does but finding your competitors instead, let's talk. We'll work on getting you found while you focus on taking care of the customers who call.
