How Small Tasks Steal Time From Business Owners

If you've ever wondered how small tasks steal time from business owners, Saturday morning is a pretty good time to notice it.

It usually starts with:

"I'll just knock this out real quick."

Famous last words.

You open the laptop to answer one email.

While you're there, you notice another one.

Then you remember you need to send an estimate.

You check Google and see a review you haven't responded to.

Might as well take care of that.

Then you remember you've got photos from this week's jobs that you wanted to upload.

Forty five minutes later, you're still sitting there.

I've done it.

I'm willing to bet most business owners have too.

The problem isn't any one of those tasks.

Most of them really do only take a few minutes.

The problem is there are a hundred of them.

And they add up.

That's how small tasks steal time from business owners without us really noticing.

Five minutes here.

Ten minutes there.

A quick email while you're eating lunch.

One more thing before you leave the office.

A little work Saturday morning.

None of it feels like much until you add it together.

Marketing is especially good at this.

Responding to one Google review doesn't take long.

Uploading a photo doesn't take long.

Checking your rankings doesn't take long.

Making one website change doesn't take long.

Writing one post doesn't take long.

But maintaining an online presence isn't one task.

It's dozens of small tasks that never really stop.

That's why I think there's a point where business owners have to stop asking:

"Can I do this?"

Of course you can.

Start asking:

"Do I want to keep spending my time doing this?"

Those are very different questions.

There are only so many hours in your week.

If you can take a bunch of those little tasks and make them someone else's responsibility, suddenly you have room for the things that actually deserve your attention.

Or maybe you just get your Saturday morning back.

That's worth something too.

Understanding how small tasks steal time from business owners isn't about becoming obsessed with productivity.

It's about protecting your time from work that doesn't actually require you.

If Google, reviews, website updates, and the rest of your marketing have turned into a pile of "quick things" you're constantly trying to squeeze in, let's talk.

We'll handle those things while you handle the business.

Or, since it's Saturday, maybe don't handle anything for a few hours.
